Dr. Maria de Bettencourt Tavares is a Portuguese biomedical scientist and entrepreneur, best known as the founder and CEO of LOONAWELL, a Swiss-based company specializing in organic, human-grade dog food and treats
Maria holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Lisbon Medical School, with her research conducted at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School. She also earned an MBA and has extensive corporate experience in innovation and business strategy, particularly within the human and animal nutrition sectors.
In 2020, motivated by concerns over the quality of commercial pet food and a desire to provide better nutrition for her own dog, Luna, Dr. Tavares founded LOONAWELL. The company focuses on producing science-led, transparent, and premium nutrition for dogs, emphasizing organic ingredients and human-grade quality.
